I NEED A DEEP MAN Dorothea Manley Copyright 2014 I need a deep man A man who will look into the mirror and diagnose his own shit I need a someone who will not be afraid to sit and talk with me as I deliberate over my day of chaotic prose I need a deeper man who will not be afraid of the word DEEP A man who will open his heart to the transforming power of the totality of what God has for him to embrace within this woman who is as deep as the Nile and can swim it too... I need a deep man who can run his fingers through my nappy hair and not whence at cottony softness that embellishes this crown He has to be deeper than me to contain this heart that dreams of a life poured into a cast iron skillet and fried up to perfection These thighs are not small or improperly structured to fit around his But they are perfection as God has molded me to him Yes, he has to be deep and not afraid of his own greatness or mine Deeper... It is only a state of freedom and he

My Womb Opened Up (Poem)

My Womb Opened Up Dorothea Manley 2/4/2014 Giving Dorothea Manley Copyright 2014 My womb opened up and ... there... you .... were A dream that came from my body and had a life all of its own They measured you and weighed you according to Apgar and not God But you were determined to be more than a number on a scale And look at you now, my womb and I are prouder than peacocks with fanned feathers and necks held high You are the epitome of the life that connected inside of me in a moment of love and pleasure and ...destiny Look at you now, my womb and I are proud of what we birthed and unearthed Be whole in this journey and know that you have a womb too So live and bring forth life that will aspire, inspire, bring forth fruit My womb and I are tired and there will be no more baby showers here oh no But what we have created will live on into eternity because it is a reproduction of God himself oh yes I look at my dream and my heart bursts with con

A Black Woman Free (Poem)

A Black Woman Free by Dorothea A. Manley  copyright 2014 A black woman free is a force of nature too great to scale or measure A nubian princess running through the desert of life to come upon the spring that refreshes her soul and offers her such great treasure  IT is MY pleasure to be in the midst of royalty when I see my ebony sistahs stepping in and out of roles too vast to unfold or unpack W ithin her you know there is no lack but an abundance of rain watering the earth as the drops fall upon rich soil Yes, rich shit that she has masterfully turned into nourishment that supports the foundation on which she STANDS not as sands But her steps are upon concrete sheets so certain that God himself could use them as His platform A black woman free, she is the epitome, the center, the nucleus, the creme de le creme! She is the is and the always will be... A black woman free is me. Preferences Preferences Preferences § 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Don't Let the Day Get Away

Every day of our lives is like a garden. It requires care, attention, and protection. If we never weed, till, or water our gardens they will become so overgrown until we won't know our planted treasures from the clutter. The weeds, being equal to life's distractions, and the flowers, being the people and activities that deserve our planned and prioritized efforts, cannot peacefully co-exist. Our lives are worth every moment we can take to plan our days, organize our thoughts, master faith over our fears, and contribute love to a world in need. Take time every day to plan and think ahead about the ways in which you can extend the life of your treasures and rid yourself of the unnecessary fodder that would steal time and opportunity if left unchecked. Even say out loud, "My time is valuable because it is the conduit through which my life flows. My life is valuable because of how I cherish my time." Be Encouraged, Speak Life! Preferences § 1 2 3 4

To Be Happy and Whole

My heart seeks to be whole and happy. I will love unconditionally today and seek to give more than I receive. I will forgive quickly and trust that God knows what is best and will bring the proper resolution to any situation I face. I will keep my eyes forward and only seek what is in front of me, leaving my past behind. More Than Positive Affirmations

PROJECT SPEAK LIFE Positive affirmations give us power and strength! But they also motivate us to move to love, to accept, to expect, to grow! They keep us focused forward and help us move beyond our hindrances and obstacles - you can't trip over them when they are behind you! So, we speak what we want to see come to pass believing that as we do the work, which includes in part preparation a nd in part perspiration, we will realize not only our dreams and aspirations - but we will achieve them while living out our PURPOSE!  Let's begin: Today, I submit myself to the healing process more than I ever have before. I give up anger and embrace joy. I relinquish my right to be hurt and stand up in my God-given birthright to live an abundant life, here and now! I realize that true love and acceptance give me permission to be who I am. Today, I love who I am and I give myself permission to be free and to enjoy my life like never before! Project Speak Life

THE VIRGIN SOUL PREVIEW

The Virgin Soul ©2007 Dorothea A. Manley The Catharsis   “She had been touched everywhere but her soul ,” The man on the street corner preached as I walked lackadaisically with my little hand in the tight grip of my crack-addicted mother.   They say the soul is the center of your mind, will, and your emotions. But they never tell you what that has to do with the cause of life. They never tell you that there is a special chemistry between the three that make up who you are in the earth. They never prepare you for the separate but equal experiences and the pains that pierce through one and explode into the other. They never tell you that one day you will find the peace, the love and the joy equilibrium in the soulish realm will bring when you submit your soul to God – and even if they did, I wouldn’t have listened because all of my soul ’s parts clamoring for my attention, it seemed simultaneously. Damn! I wish I could just turn that stupid prea
