I NEED A DEEP MAN
Dorothea Manley
Copyright 2014

I need a deep man
A man who will look into the mirror and diagnose his own shit
I need a someone who will not be afraid to sit
and talk with me as I deliberate over my day of chaotic prose
I need a deeper man who will not be afraid of the word DEEP
A man who will open his heart to the transforming power of the totality of what God has for him to embrace within this woman who is as deep as the Nile and can swim it too...
I need a deep man who can run his fingers through my nappy hair and not whence at cottony softness that embellishes this crown
He has to be deeper than me to contain this heart that dreams of a life poured into a cast iron skillet and fried up to perfection
These thighs are not small or improperly structured to fit around his
But they are perfection as God has molded me to him
Yes, he has to be deep and not afraid of his own greatness or mine
Deeper...
It is only a state of freedom and he must be deeply free...
to be with me...

Me Too... My Story

Yeah... Me too... When I see this I can't help but think that I am one of millions. As I reflect back on my own experience and I relive the pain for being raped, I get a little indignant, a little confused, sad and overwhelmed. Truly, I am not completely healed from my 2006 experience. I am, however, on the right path. How do I know? I don't want him dead any more. I want him out of my head and away from my emotions - but I don't want him dead. My experience began as a friendly meet up to go have drinks and party a little bit as I was a tad bit depressed and just needed to get out of my own head, so-to-speak. We were meeting at his house and then off to the Wild Hair in Wicker Park. I was truly looking forward to a different experience with someone whom I trusted to take care of me. You see, the guy who assaulted me was a friend, a brother. We sang at church together and we laughed all of the time. I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT HE WOULD HURT ME THE WAY THAT HE DID...N...

Don't Let the Day Get Away

Every day of our lives is like a garden. It requires care, attention, and protection. If we never weed, till, or water our gardens they will become so overgrown until we won't know our planted treasures from the clutter. The weeds, being equal to life's distractions, and the flowers, being the people and activities that deserve our planned and prioritized efforts, cannot peacefully co-exist. Our lives are worth every moment we can take to plan our days, organize our thoughts, master faith over our fears, and contribute love to a world in need. Take time every day to plan and think ahead about the ways in which you can extend the life of your treasures and rid yourself of the unnecessary fodder that would steal time and opportunity if left unchecked. Even say out loud, "My time is valuable because it is the conduit through which my life flows. My life is valuable because of how I cherish my time." Be Encouraged, Speak Life!
